In her new interview as a new agent, Ramona craved dark twisted fantasies. With this new moon, she is seeking fiction for young adult and adult/crossover with lighter themes in magical realism & fabulism similar to Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina by Zoraida Cordova, or The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
As for the middle grade crowd, she wants to call in magical universes with lush world-building in the vein of anime Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke.
Or, speak into existence a Brother’s Grimm or Alice in Wonderland/Wizard of Oz retelling.
In season 2, episode 1, we’ll kick off by hearing from Avery Bacchues on his experience as an African American/Black drummer in a band called The X-Hunters. The band was formed in 2010, inspired by the Megaman video game, mainly just so the band members could have fun. They play instrumental covers of video game songs, predominantly in the metal genre with bits of progressive rock sprinkled in.
So how does one break into the video game music scene or even begin to listen to this wondrous genre? You can learn more about all things video game related, including video game music, by looking into MAGFEST.
Band/artist and recommended reads from Avery are:
Bad Brains, American Rock Band (“Rasta Punk”)
Sammus, Blk American underground rapper.
Rap on Trial Book by Andrea L. Dennis and Erik Nielson
It’s Bigger than Hip-Hop by MK Asante

The albatross is an oceanic bird. It has an ability to travel long distances throughout the day, which highlights an admirable endurance.
Ramona loves the sea and aspires to embody the albatross’ spirit of freedom. This body of work adopts it as a totem, offering poetry as an escape tool. It takes you from land over flowing currents and into the horizon.
